Stacey N. Doan, Ph.D.

Berger Institute Director and Associate Professor of Psychology. Professor Doan received her B.A. from Carleton College and her Ph.D. from Cornell University. Her research focuses on maternal and child health, resilience and adjustment, and relations between stress, emotions, mind and body. She is particularly interested in the role of the social environment and its effects on physical health and psychological well- being.

Berger Institute Lab and Research Manager. Courtney graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a B.A. in Psychology. She aims to pursue a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology and improve mental health services for under served populations.

Shruthi Venkatesh ’18 CMC

Research Assistant. Shruthi graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a B.A. in Psychology. She is currently a research assistant at the Berger Institute and Kravis Leadership Institute. She hopes to pursue Developmental Psychology in graduate school and specifically explore the influences of culture on parenting and child-rearing practices.

Program Coordinator. Jamie is in her last year at Claremont McKenna College studying Psychology. In addition to coordinating programming at the Berger Institute, she also works as a Research Assistant at the CARE lab.

Mary Sullivan

Administrative Assistant. Mary graduated from Chaffey College in 2018 with an A.S. in Business Administration; an A.A. in Arts/Humanities Studies; an A.A. in Sociology/Behavior Studies and an A.A. in Business/Technologies Studies. She is interested in Social Entrepreneurship, International Development and Social Change, and the practical application of Permaculture Principles.

Program Coordinator/Research Assistant. Ashley Ahn is a student at Claremont McKenna College and is majoring in psychology. She is a research assistant in the AMH-CARE Lab and does event programming for the Berger Institute. Ashley is pursuing a career in clinical psychology to continue her advocacy work.

Program Coordinator/Research Assistant. Jacob Brawer is a student at Pomona College, majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Mathematics. He works in the CARE Lab and is a program assistant with the Berger Institute.


BetsyBetsy Blackard, PhD Student, Claremont Graduate University

Research Assistant. Betsy is a graduate student at Claremont Graduate University working towards a PhD in Positive Developmental Psychology. She is passionate about relationships of all kinds and her research so far has focused on the parent-child dynamic. She works as a graduate research assistant for the Berger Institute in the AMH-CARE Lab. She is excited to use her degree to create programs and resources that help families thrive.

Program Coordinator/Research Assistant. Anna Beth is a student at Claremont McKenna College majoring in psychology. She is one of the CMC Rotaract Co-Presidents and coordinates all blood drives and other Rotaract community service activities. She is also the COO and Co-CMO for Claremont Apparel, a non-profit clothing startup she created with Claremont Women in Business Innovations Team. For the Berger Institute, she works as an event programmer and a research assistant in the AMH-CARE lab.

Research Assistant. Cally recently graduated from Pomona College in May of 2018. She completed the Pre-Health track and majored in Media Studies. Currently she is a research assistant for the AMH-CARE lab and works in event programming for Berger Institute. She plans to get her MD or NP in Women’s Health.

Research Assistant. Adrienne Kafka is a student at Claremont McKenna College, majoring in psychology and dance. She is also part of a 5C acapella group and is interested in exploring the intersection between psychology and the arts.
